The San Francisco Dance Film Festival (SFDFF) brings dance to new audiences through the presentation and development of dance-based media. Along with the annual presentation of its award-winning festival, SFDFF's year-round activities include special screenings, panels, and filmmaking workshops.
THE BRIEF
In celebrating its 15th anniversary, the San Francisco Dance Film Festival wanted to craft a fresh logo around the abbreviation “SFDFF”. They desired a square-proportioned graphic representing both dance and film in a modern yet timeless way. Since SFDFF works with a wide range of films, the logo needed to be versatile enough to be overlaid on different kinds of images without clashing.
THE SOLUTION
Playing with concepts like pixels, rule of thirds framing, and viewfinder markings, we landed on a logo that riffs on the organization’s abbreviation. Having been identified as the most important part of their title, the word “Dance” is emphasized and quite literally evokes movement by encouraging the reader to turn their head. Color can be applied to the logo in ways that match an annual festival campaign or blend with a given film image.
